Last night revealed the first intensity of this journey. We're sleeping at 14500.I've felt amazing till last night when I woke in pitch dark struggling to breathe. Best I can describe it was like a fish out of water. So far in the trip has felt like normal backpacking adventure because my body has felt perfect. Last night the "realness" has fully hit. I'm feeling much better this morning. This is a normal thing at altitude and I have the meds to correct it. I'm being careful to be safe and making sure to live. This is Mt Dobuche that revealed herself this morning to us.
My favorite selfie ever. Woke in the middle of the night with the goldfish breath. 2hours of struggling to breath had me think I wouldn't be doing our final climb with the team. 3 members went to the Basecamp and 3 hiked up the 18600ft peak of Kala Patthar. I hiked the peak and had the views of Everest... Yep that's the biggest mountain in the world photo bombing my pic. Now we have 6 days of hiking back to Khatmandu. Kala Pathar 18512ft
2 weeks on the trail with limited bathing... Things get a bit out of hand.
Last push today. The whole group was fired up to make it to Lukla. We barely stopped, kept our heads down and torched a 3 hour hike in 2 hr 15. Jangbu tapped me with the last climb into the town... "let's go Jim". Race on. We tied at the top. We had time to catch our breath when the team came up with high fives and enthusiastic yelps. This is me showered with semi fresh clothes. 1 full day in lukla and we'll depart on a ridiculously nutty take off from lukla airport after 2 sleeps. Jangbu Sherpa 1 win 1 tie Jim Sharpa 1 win 1 tie
What a cool way to finish our experience. Our guide had us to his place for dinner. So much food and warm company. BTW... In khatmandu... Electricity isn't always predictable. Candles lit an amazing meal. It also happened to be his sons 10th birthday. #nepal
Got to play some hacky with a local. — at Pasang Lhamu Nicole Niquille Hospital,Lukla,Nepal.
Top of Kala Patthar
Almost the same thing.... I've heard. #nepal
This is the hospital in Lukla. For perspective, one must fly into what some consider the most dangerous airport or hike 5 days to get to Lukla. There is a Swiss doctor and a Nepalese doctor and 6 nurses. What touched my heart so much was that every child from 0-5 are treated for free. There is a woman in England that pays for these services. When have the ability to reach out beyond and care for others in different nations.
This is a famous monastery in middle of the himalayas. Our guide Jangbu Sherpa knew Ngawang Tenzin Jangpo, incarnate Lama of Thyangpoche Monestary. a prominent Lama in Nepal. The group was able to visit in his private living quarters where we received a blessing.

We were touristing along the trek and this woman shows up. She made it obvious that she wanted me to take her picture. *snap* Here it is. Then she reached out and indicated that she'd like some money. I happily gave her some rupees. What is amazing about the people of Nepal is how beautiful they are. This woman radiated her inner contentment out into her external physical body. The people of Nepal live so much more physically uncomfortably than we do here in the states. They are happier people than we are in the states. Not just my observation, but studies have also found this to be true. Most of these people probably don't know what antidepressant drugs are. We go to these places and try to make life more comfortable for them as we have it in the states. #peacecorp etc. I wonder if it would be helpful to have them come here and teach us about contentment, grace and joy? #nepal #joy #love #beauty #model #modeling #grace #beauty #ebc
